ECOPLAY CHOSEN TO HELP NEW DEVELOPMENT MEET CODE FOR SUSTAINABLE HOMES
 |
Letchworth-based housing developer Crestel Partnerships has chosen the new Ecoplay micro grey water recycling unit from CME Sanitary Systems, to help the homes on its latest development for Genesis Housing Group reach Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes. The Ecoplay unit will be installed in all the affordable dwellings which Crestel is building on the GMG development in Bushey, Hertfordshire.
Crestel is undertaking a 3-phase programme to demolish the 94 existing dwellings and replace them with 190 units which will include both flats and 3-storey houses.
“We have considerable expertise in environmental issues and the Code for Sustainable Homes,” explains Crestel Partnerships Director Shenaz Virji. “As part of the design process, and in consultation with our client, we discounted other alternatives such as rainwater harvesting systems because the GMG development site is restricted for space. We had to consider installing individual water saving systems in each house and the Ecoplay unit from CME represented the only practical way that the development could gain the water credits required to reach Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes without compromising flow rates.
“Our client, Genesis Housing Group, was happy with our recommendation which reinforces their commitment to develop sustainable, energy efficient properties, with low maintenance and running costs. They also felt that Ecoplay's maintenance-free operating system and environmentally-friendly nature would appeal to the residents involved.”,”
